What is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, reshapes the under portion of the upper arm from the armpit to the elbow. It removes excess skin and fat that causes a drooping, sagging appearance often called bat wings, creating a more toned and defined arm contour.

Ideal Candidates

Good candidates for arm lift surgery:

  • Have significant upper arm skin laxity or bat wings
  • Are at a relatively stable weight
  • Are non-smokers in good overall health
  • Accept that there will be a visible scar along the inner arm

The Procedure

Arm lift surgery removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms:

1. Incision

An incision is made along the inner arm, from the armpit extending toward the elbow.

2. Tissue Removal

Excess skin and fat are removed from the upper arm.

3. Contouring

Remaining skin is smoothed and tightened over the new arm contour.

4. Closure

Incisions are closed and arms are wrapped in compression garments.

Recovery & Results

Most patients return to light activities within a week. Arms should be kept elevated when possible. Full recovery takes about 4-6 weeks.

Results are immediately visible and long-lasting, though skin will continue to age naturally over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be a visible scar?

Yes, arm lift leaves a scar along the inner arm. The scar fades over time and is usually hidden when arms are at your sides.

Can liposuction alone fix arm fat?

Liposuction can address fat but not loose skin. If you have significant skin laxity, an arm lift is needed for best results.

Will I be able to raise my arms normally?

Yes, after healing, you will have full range of motion in your arms.
